Coker puutarha on yksi Chapel Hillin salaisuuksista - tämä puutarha on yliopiston alueella ja kuuluu nykyisin Pohjois-Karoliinan kasvitieteellisen puutarhaan. Puutarha on alunperin aloitettu 1903. Ehkä huomiota herättävimmän näköinen on pitkä - useammasta köynnöskasvista koostuva pergola.
Vuonna 1997 kun pergolaa uudistettiin, samalla rakennettiin muistoalue kahdeksan oppilaan muistoksi, jotka olivat menehtyneet ennen koulun päättymistä. Yliopiston alueella oli ollut tulipalo, jossa 5 oppilasta menehtyi.
Kuumana kesäpäivänä tämä pergola on mukavan viileä.
Coker Arboretum - located at UNC Chapel Hill Campus is one of the college town hidden secrets. Dr Coker started arboretum in 1903 - over the years there has been interesting phases - such a 'drug garden' in 1923 (nationally awarded medicinal garden !) and use of Asian trees and shrubs. Over 500 different species exist in garden.
One of the most prominent feature is the Arbor - originally built in 1913 - and re-built in 1996. During re-building a memorial was included to remember students from Class 1997 that didn't survive to graduate ( fire at Gamma Phi Delta).
In hot NC day, this is a nice place to visit and be in shade !
